Johannesburg to host the 2026 African Sixes Championships

South Africa will host the continental championships for the first time, welcoming Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Ivory Coast to St Stithians College from 1–4 December. The top men's and women's finishers qualify for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championship.

Lacrosse returns to the Olympic Games at LA28

The IOC confirms lacrosse on the programme for Los Angeles 2028 in the Sixes format — the sport's first Olympic medal competition in over a century, and a generational opportunity for emerging lacrosse nations like South Africa.

SALA becomes the 69th member nation of World Lacrosse

South Africa is formally admitted to World Lacrosse as its 69th member — just the fourth African nation to join — giving South African players, coaches, and officials a recognised pathway into international competition.

Lacrosse is introduced to South Africa for the first time

Two teenage brothers visiting Limpopo introduce a camp of 30 children to a game none of them have seen before. The South African Lacrosse Project takes root in Vaalwater — the grassroots beginning of what would grow into SALA.
