The Home of Lacrosse in South Africa

It started in 2007 with two teenage brothers, a borrowed soccer pitch in Limpopo, and a stick nobody there had ever held. From that first afternoon to the international stage, the South African Lacrosse Association is building the fastest game on two feet into a proudly South African sport — for every player, everywhere.

What We Do

Growing the game at every level

SALA governs, develops, and promotes lacrosse across South Africa — from a first catch at a school clinic to a national jersey.

01 — Develop

Grassroots & Schools

We bring lacrosse to schools and communities across the country, training coaches and putting sticks in hands so the game grows where it has never been played before.

02 — Compete

National Teams

Our men's and women's national squads carry the flag in international competition, with a home African Sixes Championships in Johannesburg in December 2026.

03 — Inspire

Pathways to the World

With lacrosse back at the Olympics for LA28, we're building the pathway for South African athletes, coaches, and officials to reach the sport's biggest stages.

Where It Began

A soccer pitch in Vaalwater, 2007

Two teenage brothers from Maryland came to visit a family friend in Limpopo — and ended up introducing an entire country to a sport it had never seen. What began with 30 children and a handful of borrowed sticks has since reached more than 4,000 young South Africans, and put one of its first campers, Phinius Sebatsane, on SALA's Board.
